South African women to be celebrated by Divas Unite

Every year on 9 August Women’s Day is celebrated in South Africa, a public holiday that praises the phenomenal women of our nation.

Acknowledging their strength, solidarity, determination and forward movement, Divas Unite will celebrate the mothers, the wives, the sisters and the daughters of our rainbow nation in a charity concert to take place at the iconic Cape Town City Hall.

On Sunday, 9 August at 15:00, men, women, families, friends, children, couples and music lovers alike are invited to watch the Auditorium of the Cape Town City Hall come alive with the sound of music of inspirational female artists who have played an integral part in the development of the South African music industry.

These include performances by Zolani Mahola, lead singer of Freshlyground, top South African sopranos Magdalene Minnaar and Zanne Stapelberg, stars of the musicals stage, Kim Kallie and grande dame Judy Page, as well as SAMA Award-winning instrumental pop group, Sterling EQ.

They will be joined on stage by young up-and-coming opera singer, Noluvuyiso Mpofu, and especially for Woman's Day, an all-female Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. An exciting addition to Divas Unite will be a unique performance by Sans Souci Girls High School representing Sing the Change - an initiative that uses songwriting and performance to empower youth as a creative form of community service for positive change.

One of South Africa's top TV presenters, Katlego Maboe, joins the event as MC.

“We are extremely excited that this dream of ours has come to fruition. When talking to musician Magdalene Minnaar in March this year, this was all but a vision. And now, we have got it off the ground through amazing partners such as Infiniti Luxury Cars who have put support behind this event," comments event organiser Barbara Lenhard.

"It is with great excitement that Infiniti South Africa announces its sponsorship of the Divas Unite concert in support of Project Flamingo — a charity assisting women to gain access to early and decent treatment for breast cancer. We, at Infiniti, are thrilled to be associated with such an empowering event that not only shows support for women, but which is also inspired by Africa's arts and culture scene. We look forward to Women's Day on the 9th of August, and all that the Divas Unite Concert has in store, and of course its impact going forward," says Vinola Pillay, senior manager of Marketing and Communications at Infiniti South Africa.

This event is brought to you by Opulent Living Experiences, and made possible by presenting partner Infiniti Luxury Cars and various associate partners.

General admission tickets will be sold at R290 through Computicket and includes complimentary Pongracz bubbly, tea and coffee as well as delicious cupcakes and other snacks during interval and after the concert.
